I have a feeling that as alternative energy becomes a bigger deal, existing gasoline stations will be retrofitted with solar panels, capacitor and battery banks, natural gas tanks, and hydrogen fuels. This is a much more efficient alternative to building brand new fueling stations. What companies are prepared to do the retrofitting. Essentially — Sticking with the rules of Yahoo Answers, I am not going to name the company. . but my company does just that. We build and maintain service stations. Over the last decade we have had to venture into new areas to keep up with the changing times. We sell and service natural gas / LP fueling equipment. We have also gotten into the ethanol based fuel equipment industry. Many of your medium to large c-store chains are already exploiting and providing these two alternates. We have just invested in the development of solar powered "charging stations" for the battery systems you find in hybrids and full electric cars. The auto industry is heading to a direction that these batteries will be removable and interchangeable, meaning that you will not have to stop your trip to recharge your batteries. . just pull into a service station and exchange yours for a freshly charged battery. In the late 90's the development of hydrogen fuel powered autos really slowed down. There are many reasons that I have been told, but I still believe that this was due to the "big oil" lobbyists working hard against it.

Why dont they make more of them. After speaking to others on the web, I found the answer. Screw Hydrogen cars.. Very hard to make and complex. And they suck……. Electric cars all the way……. Easy to charge and not complex as Hydrogen cars.

Electric? Hybrid? Ethanol? Biodiesel? Natural Gas? Other. Do you know what I found? ———- Electric. And I will make a case below for why this is the closest to reality, best for the environment, and the most affordable technology. * First of all, electric cars are available RIGHT NOW. Look at the links on this page, you can buy a freeway-capable EV for as little as $5000: * * Also on the above page, you can read about how much cheaper (1 cent per mile) electric is than gasoline (10 to 15 cents/mile. ) No other alt-fuel option can beat this operating cost. * There are also exciting new-tech electric cars coming out this year, like the Phoenix: * * This car solves all the problems: it gets up to 250 miles/charge, goes 95mph with 5 passengers plus cargo, charges in only TEN MINUTES, and has a battery pack that lasts over 200,000 miles. * These cars are best for the environment because they emit nothing from the tailpipe. It's true that power plants emit pollution, but the amount of overall pollution is only a fraction of what gasoline cars produce. (Due to the better efficiency of power generation, energy delivery, and utilization by the EV. Plus the fact that much electricity is now made from clean sources. ) Charging your EV from solar panels on your garage would make it a true zero-emissions vehicle with an operating cost close to zero as well. ———-
