I'm trying to save energy in our home. We've switched to energy saving light bulbs and I wondered if there's an energy saving heater about. Does anyone know if there is? Any helpful comments would be appreciated. Well, I have your answer right here. To heat water, it takes a fixed amount of energy, nothing will change this. The light can be switched to a florescent, but most large aquariums already use them. Put the light on a timer sos it comes on and off only the amout of time the fish need light.

I guess what I mean is, what would the effects be if we use it to extremes. People talk about saving energy a lot by doing things such as unplugging lamps/chargers etc that you're not using, turning of lights, using blackle. . But I can honestly say that I'm not 100% sure why I do these things. Thanks for any answers. Have a good day . I was happy to learn… OK, for every watt that is running continuously in your home, you are spending roughly a dollar per year. For every item with a clock and transformer plugged into the wall you are using about 3 to 30 watts of power even when the thing is switched off. If you have dozens of these things around your home you can spend several hundred dollars a year for nothing. On top of that fumes from Gas, Coal or Oil are probably released into the atmosphere when the power is generated and choke mainly younger, very old or more susceptible people who have difficulty breathing. Many people die of respiratory illness aggravated by BAD AIR. If you used Solar power for everything in your home and so did everyone else, and all cars were electric ( and planes were powered without Jet Fuel) the Sky's would turn blue, the pale smog which permeates cities would vanish (providing we got rid of Industrial gas release) the air would be so good to breath that people would simply live much longer. And perhaps the ocean water would turn blue as well. (we need to work on sewage also) I’magine what the air and water were like in America 700 years ago. Now the opposite of that would be if everyone wasted as much energy as possible, many more people would die faster from respiratory illness and we all would spend money for absolutely nothing.

Rather than have ALL the street lights lit up on the motorways, why doesn't the gov. Light up only every other light? Surely this would mean big saving to the treasury and environment. . any comments. I think I found an answer. The government is stupid. They have all these commercials about the citizens cutting back on electricity and paper&plastic and stuff, when they are hardly doing anything to help the environment. Surely they could cut back on street lights, we don't need them all. And plus they turn on the street lights too early. In the summer they start to turn them on at like 7 oclock. When in reality, it doesn't get dark until like 9 or 10 oclock. It makes absolute no sense. And you are right. It would save a lot of electricity if they did cut back on street lights, but they choose not to. All they care about is their money, but in the long run, they'll realise on how much of a mistake they made by waisting electricity and making the world a worse place. Good question, by the way.
